Project Reflection

Project Reflection

It's been a long and winding road, mostly full of good things. Doing this project has forced me to change the way that I work. I have found that I often neglect my work and leave everything for the last minute.

Our project hasn't evolved too much apart from the central idea early into the project. Our project has revolved around our initial planning, we stuck to the plan that was made and didn't veer off track. Looking back now it seems simple, a simple idea and a simple message, but the thought and effort put into it shines through.

Doing this project shows me how much effort must go into creating an entire movie. Making a two minute video took me months to make, most of which was planning. I never thought I would be debating over two nearly identical fonts. The fact that we spent an hour on the font alone should be representative of how much effort went into the whole project.

I think all in all my video was able to do everything we wanted it to. Representation and target audience were taken into consideration. Along with that we were able to create a movie introduction that shows a story we wanted to tell. And that at the end of the day is what movies are for.

CCR Planning

CCR Planning

For the Creative critical reflection I need to not only write a script where I go into detail about the questions but also come up with a creative way to express my thoughts. As of now I have only written my answers to the questions that I need to answer within the video.

I've thought of a couple of ways to do the CCR but haven't decided on a final way of doing it. I'm going to decide how I'm going to do it by the end of the week because I need to then film and edit it, which shouldn't be too difficult but will still take time. In general I think It will be easy and I'll finish on time.

Final polish

Final polish

All of the main parts of the video have been finished and it is within the required time. All that's left to do now is go over the video and fix the little things. Some of these things include timing of the video, but in general I have found that most of the problems in the video that need little adjustments are sound related.

Some of these problems are with the music and some with the video. Some of the recordings had background audio that I don't want so I have to find where these parts are and mute the video when these problems arise. With the music, it's small adjustments to the audio and when it increases or decreases. I've tried to have the audio increase when there is no important audio and decrease during dialogue. Going over the video is just gonna let me decide if the volume needs to be higher or lower. Apart from these small issues the video is done.

Better Than I Thought I Was

Better Than I Thought I Was

After worrying so much about my video being too long, I ended up with 2:08. I was able to do this by cutting out specific parts of the video which I talked about in my past post.

I was able to add to parts I was forced to get rid of before. I was legitimately very happy to add to the video again. This project has been my kid for so long and getting rid of parts felt like getting rid of what makes the project mine. I think I've been working on this for to long and I'm getting too attached to a video. But being able to add the parts to the video back felt like the project was perfect for the first time since i started hacking at the video like a butcher.

Precision Cutting

Precision Cutting

Creative problems require creative solutions, I've been trying to cut this video down to the right size and have only gotten to 2:20. That was until I thought of something that could cut down the video enough.

I was having a conversation when I noticed the empty air between us talking. After I realized that, I looked back at conversations in the video. I noticed the amount of empty air in the conversations within the video. I knew I couldn't erase the empty air outright or wouldn't seem like a conversation and the pacing would be off. Instead I cut it out and manipulated the time between lines so it would be shorter. After doing this to a couple of the conversations, I was able to cut down the video to the actual time. Now all that is left is to fine tune the sound and little edits on the video.

These few blog postings couldn't in a million years represent accurately the effort that goes into editing this video. I've spent hours upon hours editing this. If it wasn't for being in quarantine, I would actually be in a crunch for time. So at least there's a bright side to being stuck at home for weeks.
